Providing quality support to a person living with Parkinson's disease requires more than understanding the diagnosis—it requires an appreciation of how the condition affects every aspect of daily life. This practical two-hour workshop has been developed specifically for disability support workers and explores the physical, cognitive and emotional impacts of Parkinson's disease, along with practical strategies to provide safe, person-centred support that promotes independence and quality of life.
Participants will gain an understanding of how Parkinson's disease progresses, recognise common signs and symptoms, appreciate the critical importance of medication timing, and learn practical techniques to assist with mobility, communication, personal care and everyday activities. Through real-world examples and discussion, participants will build the confidence to recognise changes in a client's condition, respond appropriately to common challenges, and work effectively alongside families and healthcare professionals. The workshop concludes with reflective questions that encourage participants to consider how they can apply their learning to improve outcomes for the people they support.
