Epilepsy Awareness and Emergency Medication for Disability Support Workers

Our Epilepsy program is led by experienced nurses or paramedics who have firsthand experience in supporting individuals with epilepsy. These trusted health professionals bring invaluable insights to the training, ensuring participants understand the importance of the course and are committed to their learning.

Key topics covered in the program include understanding and defining epilepsy, the potential impact of epilepsy and seizures, common types and symptoms of seizures, triggers and conditions that increase seizure risk, medications used to manage seizures, creating a safe environment for epilepsy support, and reporting responsibilities such as handover, recording observations, and incident reporting. Additionally, the program addresses managing unconscious breathing casualties.

This course will also cover the use of emergency medication in the event of a seizure and in line with the client documented care plan.
