Dysphagia is a medical term that refers to difficulty swallowing. People with dysphagia have trouble swallowing certain foods or liquids, while others can't swallow at all. This can be a problem with the act of swallowing itself or the sensation of food being stuck in the throat or chest.
The causes of dysphagia vary widely, but some common ones include neurological disorders like stroke, Parkinson's disease, or multiple sclerosis, certain cancers especially those involving the throat or esophagus, and muscular conditions such as muscular dystrophy.
This course will assist Disability Support Workers in understanding how to best support clients in their care who suffer from dysphagia
